White Center, Washington “Rat City” T-shirt

White Center, Washington. You know it and you love it (and you know ORANJ loves it too). But why do they call it Rat City?

Here are some theories:

1.) There was a military Reserve Army Training Center or Recruitment and Training Center in the area.

2.) White Center was designated Restricted Alcohol Territory during WWII.

3.) The kids that hung out at the Southgate Skate Center were called rink rats.

4.) There are a lot of rats in White Center.

The fact is, no one really knows why they call it Rat City.
